About Us

Welcome to the Book of Barite. All products are self collected and carefully cleaned by us. We are a husband and wife team that started our rockhound journey in 2020 even though the love of rocks was always there. We collect a variety of rocks and minerals but most of the catalog is dedicated to Barite. Barite is one of our favorite minerals. We often find ourselves getting lost in admiring our pieces. It has a lot of variety even in the same locality which is very fascinating, however Barite is a very underrated mineral. Our experience with Barite over the years has educated us on how amazingly beautiful can be in its natural form and how satisfying it can be in its polished form. Barite is not known to be polished or cut because it’s softer than gemstones but we have had some success polishing and drilling holes to make jewelry.

We create a variety of jewelry made from some of our Barite we collect on the field.

Fluorescent & Phosphorescent Barite

California Barite are fluorescent meaning they glow under UV light, shortwave has the best results. The colors vary from orange, white, sometimes blue. Some are Phosphorescent so when you turn off the UV light it glows green for a few seconds. Most of the Barite are both fluorescent and phosphorescent.

Necklace is exactly as pictured and even more stunning in person. The energy of this stone is so strong and unique and it really comes down to how this shop handles the minerals. I would buy anything and everything from them 10/10.

The brown barite necklace I received was exactly as pictured. The crystal is clean and beautiful. The wire is high gauge and carefully and skillfully wrapped around the crystal making the piece very sturdy. I will definitely be purchasing another piece.

Ordering this exquisite piece was the best jewelry decision I made this year. The quality, cut, and clarity of the stone was even better than in the pictures. I liked it so much, I returned to the store for a second necklace. Fast delivery, great customer service, and a beautiful beautiful piece of barite that I keep close to my heart. Thank You!

              What is Barite?

Some fun facts about Barite or Baryte

Barite sometimes called Baryte receives its name from the Greek word “barys” which means “heavy.” This name is in response to barite’s high specific gravity of 4.5, which is exceptional for a nonmetallic mineral. Although it’s heavier than most minerals it’s actually pretty low on the Mohs hardness scale compared to quartz or diamond.

Barite is a barium sulfate belonging to the Barite Group of minerals. Barite takes a wide variety of forms including blades, prismatic and often large tabular crystals. It also occurs in lamellar, fibrous crystal formations. Barite can be colorless, yellow, red, blue, green, or brown depending on the included mineral content. At times bladed or tabular crystals of barite form a concentric pattern of increasingly larger crystals outward. This has the appearance of a flower. Some varieties of barIte can be fluorescent.
